Since 1975, Bishop McManus Academy has implemented an Individualized approach to learning that is markedly different from the standard classroom. Realizing that every student is a unique person with God-given talents and abilities, and as such, will learn and progress at his or her own rate of mastery, we initially diagnose each student with a battery of tests designed to highlight individual learning strengths and weaknesses. Students are then placed in the curriculum in each subject at their own performance levels determined by the results of these tests.
Students learn in a library-like atmosphere, in all core subjects, through the means of computerized lessons, printed materials, labs and/or lectures. The unique format of our curriculum allows students to advance from unit to unit as they demonstrate mastery, moving independently through the curriculum under the careful guidance of instructors who provide tutoring at optimum moments of learning.
Bishop McManus Academy is concerned with more than just quality academics. The curriculum is built on a theistic philosophic foundation. Students learn to see life from God's point of view. Their personal relationship with God and their personal responsibilities to family, church and community are of primary concern. Chapel services are held weekly, daily devotions with prayer and song draw attention to the Giver of all wisdom, the Lord Jesus Christ. Model students are selected to provide outreach to the New Orleans community--BMA students are in demand as peer-mentors in schools throughout the city.
Each year, Bishop McManus Academy hosts Open Houses during which prospecitve parents and students have the opportunity to visit the campus and see Individualized Learning in action. To schedule an appointment, email us or call (504)246-5121.
